A Visit To The Dock

A Visit To The Dock - Natividad Meyers

Since my childhood, I have seen my uncle going to the dock everyday—even on Sundays. When I was child, I went with him a few times to the dock, but at that time I had no knowledge of what is going on. Last week, I was free on the Sunday and I thought of visiting the dock with my uncle. I called him and asked him if it would be ok for him to take me with him at the dock on Sunday.

He acknowledged my wish and told me that he will pick me at 10:00 AM on Sunday. I was happy and started waiting for Sunday anxiously and as I was going to visit the dock after so many years. Finally Sunday arrived and I was all ready at 10:00 AM. I had my breakfast a little earlier than usual, read the paper and was now waiting for my uncle to pick me up. Suddenly there was the sound of the horn and I ran to the door to go sit in my uncle's car.

My uncle easily detected my excitement, and said to me to hold on as dock was about an hour's drive away from the city. Finally after a drive of one hour we arrived at the dock. My uncle first took me to his office where we had some snacks and drinks. By that time few trucks arrived at dock for loading and unloading of goods. He then asked me to go and visit the site along with him.

He first took me a site where few guys were loading goods in trucks. I enjoyed watching all the process. Then he took me another point where some guys some unloading goods from trucks. I immediately saw some yellow equipment in between the tires and mudguard. It aroused my curiosity and I could not resist asking him that what that was. My uncle smiled at my observation and took me near that equipment. Then he explained me all about truck restraint system.

He told me that this is stop truck guard which helps the truck to remain stop without any motion that can be caused by external forces. He told me that earlier trucks were not equipped with this equipment and due to that some accidents had taken place. I really learnt a lot that day and enjoyed my trip to the dock. After few hours my uncle dropped me back to my home.
